FAQ
Will my PDF be uploaded to a server?
No. All compression runs entirely in your browser via PDF.js and pdf-lib. Your PDF is never uploaded, and memory is cleared on download or refresh.
Why didn't my PDF shrink much?
PDFs that are mostly text and vector graphics are already small, so there is little room to compress — choose "Extreme" to reduce further. Large, image-heavy or scanned PDFs compress best, often 50% or more.
Can I still select, copy, and search the text after compression?
No. This tool re-renders and re-encodes each page to shrink the file, so every page becomes an image and text is no longer selectable or searchable. To keep editable text, use a dedicated PDF optimizer.
What is the difference between the three quality levels?
Balanced: the best trade-off of size and clarity, recommended for most cases. High Quality: almost no clarity loss, smaller ratio, suited for printing or archiving. Extreme: the smallest size with noticeable clarity loss, for preview-only files.
Are encrypted PDFs supported?
Not yet. Password-protected PDFs are not supported — please remove the password first, then upload.
How many pages can I compress?
Up to 30 pages per PDF and 50 MB per file. Too many pages increase browser memory usage — we recommend splitting first.
